The money was used to fund a grant to Dr. Robert Wilson, M.D., PhD, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Researchers have tested about 1000 existing FDA-approved drugs in Friedreich's Ataxia cell cultures, and 11 showed some effect. Dr. Wilson is using the funds we raised to do further testing on these 11 substances, to see whether any of them have potential as drug therapy for Friedreich's Ataxia.

2006 promises to be a record year for FA research, with as many as 5 clinical trials under way.
